In the months before her shocking suicide, Kate Spade became a “quiet” and “emotionless” recluse, her New York City neighbor told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview.
Mary Jean, a resident in the Spade family’s luxury Park Avenue apartment for more than 20 years, told RadarOnline.com exclusively that Kate and her husband Andy were “wonderful,” and called the fashion designer “gracious and kind” when they first moved into the building.
After seeing the couple often, Mary Jean said she only saw them once in the past six months.
“I thought I’d never seen two people change as much as they had,” the 80-year-old marveled to RadarOnline.com. “She became way more quiet, very quiet, and almost emotionless, and he became vociferous. That’s all I can say.”
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Kate and Andy had been experiencing marital problems in recent months, and reportedly he had moved out of their beloved home.
According to a source, she had also been experiencing mental health issues, and had a drinking problem.
Despite her change in personality, Mary Jean called the suicide “shocking.”
“Everyone has problems,” she said.
Kate was found dead in her apartment on the morning of June 5 after hanging herself . She was 55 years old.
She left a suicide note addressed to her only child, daughter Frances Beatrix, 13.
