Wanda Sykes has quit Roseanne after actress Roseanne Barr's racist Twitter scandal.
Earlier this week, the 65-year-old actress attacked Barack Obama's former advisor, Valerie Jarrett, in a shocking tweet that sent social media users on a whirlwind of fury.
"Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj," Barr wrote while replying to a tweet which accused Jarrett of helping to hide alleged offenses from the Obama administration.
Twitter users then slammed Barr — who is a Republican and avid Donald Trump supporter — calling her comment extremely offensive, immoral and racist.
"Muslims r NOT a race," she replied, later saying that her comment was just a "joke."
Reporters, activists and politicians then took to social media to shame Barr for her insensitive remark.
"The comparison by Rosanne Barr on ABC of Former Obama aide, Valerie Jarrett to an APE is racist and inexcusable. ABC must take action NOW!" wrote activist Reverend Al Sharpton.
"@HippieAdventure @therealroseanne i love roseanne quite a bit the comment roseanne tweeted was racist and childish and beneath her best self she has apologized twitter is a dangerous place, " wrote Rosie O'Donnell.
Eventually, Barr said she was sorry: "I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste."
Following the scandal, Roseanne head writer Wanda Sykes announced she would be quitting the show. "I will not be returning to@RoseanneOnABC," the actress, 54, tweeted this Tuesday.
