“Everyone worshiped him but no one knew him," said the insider, adding everyone around him was "so enamored in his presence that there was nothing anyone could do to stop him from his drugs."
Stresses of being on the road touring led to his alleged heavy drug and alcohol use, which ultimately caused him to have acute pancreatitis and his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014.
Before announcing his retirement in 2016, he was "going hard," revealed the informant: "And he’s been going hard for years. No one ever told him to get help because he wouldn’t listen anyone."
"It’s so sad but everyone in the EDM community kind of knew this was coming especially after his recent surgeries."
"He started his career very young and it was way too much for him to handle," revealed the insider. "When he started getting popular to constantly be on the road and tour. He never got to have a normal life of a college age person."
While the exact cause of death remains unknown, a rep for the producer, whose real name is Tim Bergling, confirmed the tragic news in a statement:
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” the statement reads. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
Said the source: "He just couldn’t quit the lifestyle that he created and there wasn’t anyone to help him stop.”
Avicii was only 28 years old.
