Hillary Clinton is desperate to turn around her plummeting poll numbers! As Donald Trump overtook her in several major polls, she broke a new record for campaign spending, coming in at a whopping $50 million!

Where did the money go? Clinton spent $33 million on media buys, $3.3 million for the campaign's 789-person payroll, $1.3 million for polling, $829,000 on media production, and $420,000 to the campaign's outside law firm, Politico reported.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has managed to keep his own campaign spending low, relying instead on the free advertising that comes from media coverage.

"Our expenditures on advertising, our expenditures on people, our expenditures on everything are a tiny fraction. And yet we're minimum tied," Trump said this week, according to the Associated Press.

"If you can spend less and be winning, that's a positive thing, right?"
