Michael Andrew Jace has received his punishment for fatally shooting his wife.

The actor was sentenced to 40 years to life in state prison after being found guilty of second-degree murder last month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Jace, 53, who played a police officer on The Shield, murdered his wife on May 19, 2014.

Deputy District Attorney Tannaz Mokayef told jurors during opening statements that the actor was upset when his wife asked for a divorce. He was also obsessed with the idea that she was cheating on him.

When his late wife April returned to their Los Angeles home at 8 p.m., he shot her once in the back and two more times in her legs. The shooting took place in front of the couple's two sons, who were 8 and 5 years old at the time.

Jace called 911 and told the operator he shot his wife. Jace's two children were not injured during the killing.
