When Meghan Edmonds made her sunny debut on The Real Housewives of Orange County this season, she told fans she moved to southern California to help parent her high school student stepdaughter, Hayley.

But sources exclusively tell RadarOnline.com that the St. Louis-bred blonde moved west for one reason: to become a RHOC cast member!

"She has always wanted to be famous," an insider close to the 31-year-old wife of baseball legend Jim Edmonds, 45, tells Radar. "She knew if she moved, she could get a spot on the show."

While Hayley, 17, did need some supervision while her mother LeAnn Horton battled cancer (she tragically died in July), the source says there were plenty of other family members willing to step up to the plate.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Jim's ex-wife, Allison, 35, was rumored to be joining the same series back in 2011.

"Allison decided not to join the show because she was concerned about her privacy," the source explains. "But Meghan really likes to be in the spotlight."

Though she's only been hanging out with the cast for one season, stay-at-home stepmom Meghan has already made an impact. She struck up a feud with "RHOC OG" Vicki Gunvalson and offended Tamra Judge with her controversial comments about motherhood, but quickly buddied up to Heather Dubrow.
