Bobbi Kristina Brown's husband is not speaking to his biological mother as he holds vigil by his wife's side in the hospital.

Nick Gordon, RadarOnline.com has learned, is tragically estranged from part of his extended family and isn't speaking to his own mother right now.

Gordon, who was "adopted" by the late Whitney Houston -- and lived as Brown's brother for years -- has often spoken about how the singer was more of a mother to him than his biological mother, and according to relatives, time has not healed and wounds in the relationship.

"It's a dysfunctional family," Gordon's cousin, Joseph David Savoy, told RadarOnline.com. "Nick's mother is really hurt: She's been trying to reach him to talk to him but he's not taking her calls or answering her text messages."

Savoy told RadarOnline.com that Gordon's biological mother is just "like everyone else, in shock at the tragedy" involving the second-generation star.

"It's unfortunate," Savoy remarked.

According to his cousin, Gordon's biological mother was devastated by his affection for Houston, but she always felt fondly towards Bobbi Kristina.

"She looked to her as a daughter-in-law," Savoy said. "She would call her sweetie on Facebook -- she has nothing but love for Bobbi Kristina."

But Savoy said she is supporting her son from afar.

"She doesn't think Nick had anything to do with what has happened to Krissy," Savoy said. "His mom knows that he's not evil. Nick has a good heart.

"People in America and in the world, they think he had motives -- he doesn't have any motives."

Savoy also told RadarOnline.com that he believes his cousin and Brown need compassion.

"This should be a message for America, substance abuse is a problem," Savoy said. "He knows that I love him and his mom loves him.

"We want him to be careful out there."
