Vicki Gunvalson just can’t pick ‘em. Long before her bitter divorce from her husband Donn and tumultuous relationship with boyfriend Brooks Ayers, The Real Housewives of Orange County star was living a “hard life" in Chicago with her “loser” first husband. Now, the reality star is opening  to Star up about that trying time.

The reality star was 21 when she married Michael Wolfsmith in 1983. Together, they had a son and daughter, Michael Jr. and Briana. But it was hardly a happy family. Gunvalson claims to the mag that her husband “was an alcoholic. He abused me verbally. He had many affairs during our marriage.”

“It was a very hard life,” she said. “I can’t fix his abusive nature and his screaming and his lies...it really gave me the initiative to go out and make a better life for myself, for my children.”

Gunvalson filed for divorce against Michael in 1992 and went on to become a successful real estate agent in California – but her ex continued to spiral down a troubled road.

According to Star, Wolfsmith was sentenced to jail in 1997 for disorderly conduct and bail jumping; evicted by his landlord; hit with a $14,337 tax lien in 2010 and had a warrant issued for his arrest in 2014 for unpaid child support to his second wife.
