The shock breakup comes less than two years after the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Lauryn Anabelle Martinez, on May 2, 2012.

One source close to the Iraq war veteran said Gonzalez-Jones is taking primary care of their child in the wake of the split.

RadarOnline.com reached out to Gonzalez-Jones, who declined comment. A rep for Martinez was unable to be reached.

In a recent message on Facebook, Martinez -- who sustained severe burns to over 34 percent of his body while serving as an Army infantryman in Iraq -- reflected: "People change its a part of life, but sometimes its easier to hold on to the memories of who they were rather then to realize who they have become."

An insider told RadarOnline.com: "J.R. called his team together on Dec. 30 to discuss the breakup and how they planned to handle it with the media. They didn’t talk about why the two broke up, but more how this would affect J.R.'s image."

Martinez, 30, and Gonzalez-Jones first met in 2008 when he landed a role on All My Children and their friendship blossomed into romance two years later.
