Jennifer Capriati has been formally charged with battery and stalking and she faces up to one year in prison on each count if she’s convicted!
The troubled tennis star was charged with the misdemeanors in Palm Beach County, Fl. following her Valentine's Day altercation with her former boyfriend, Ivan Brannan.
According to court documents first obtained by Gossip Extra, Jennifer, 36, was charged with the first count because she “actually and intentionally touch or strike Ivan Dwight Brannan Jr. against the will of Ivan Dwight Brannan Jr. {or} did intentionally cause harm to Ivan Dwight Brannan Jr.”
The second charge against her is stated because she “did willfully, maliciously and repeatedly follow, harass or cyberstalk Ivan Dwight Brannan Jr.”
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Brannan claims that on February 14, Capriati attacked him at Oxygen Health & Fitness in North Palm Beach, Florida. A yoga instructor told cops that while gym staffers intervened, Brannan ran inside the men’s locker room and called 911.
According to the report, Capriati — who was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame last year -- fled the scene before the police arrived but they tracked her down and questioned her and she was not taken into custody.
Capriati’s rep told RadarOnline.com at the time that they disputed Brannan’s version of the events.
“The current facts being circulated by Mr. Brannan are an over exaggeration and the police report is one-sided in Mr. Brannan’s favor since they failed to get Ms. Capriati’s side of the story,” her rep said.
“We will make sure that Ms. Capriati’s side of the story is fully conveyed and when the truth comes out she will be vindicated from these charges.”
Capriati is going to be notified of the charges by mail and will not be booked or have a mug shot taken. She will not be arrested unless she fails to show up in court and she is scheduled to appear before a judge for an arraignment on April 17.
