Who looked haute and who did not at the 2012 Met Gala?

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala is one of the most important red carpet events of the year, with Hollywood’s hottest stars modeling the latest and most elaborate couture from the world’s most important fashion designers. Carey Mulligan and Gwyneth Paltrow both dazzled in Prada, while Scarlett Johansson looked medieval marvelous in Dolce & Gabbana. And Sofia Vergara steamed things up in Marchesa, while Rihanna showed off every inch of her bod in Tom Ford. 

A la mode misses included Christina Ricci’s bow blunder Thakoon number and Kirsten Dunst’s homage to the 1920s Rodarte design. 

Wacky contenders included Elizabeth Banks in a Mary Katrantzou digitally patterned peplum dress and Chloe Sevigny wearing Miu Miu mirrors.
