The holidays are just around the corner, but before you gorge on all of your favorite fixings and set those New Year’s resolutions you may want to read on! RadarOnline.com turned to nutritionist Cynthia Pasquella, who founded detox program-for-the-stars SoCal Cleanse to give us tips on everything from how to avoid packing on the pounds to making realistic resolutions for 2012.
With all the cheese and cracker plates, festive cookies and fruitcakes on the table at holiday parties, it can be difficult to make smart choice, but Pasquella isolates the real soiree sinner!
“You really want to avoid any processed foods,” she cautions, “basically anything that’s in a form other than Mother Nature made it in, as they contain lots of fat, added calories, sugar, oils and chemical additives and preservatives.”
Instead, she suggests sticking to fresh food cooked without a lot of oil or sugar.
If you have a craving for a holiday treat, substitute it with a healthy alternative.
The diet guru personally loves pecan pie, but instead indulges on a handful of cinnamon-spiced pecans to curb the craving.
Not to be confused with other hard-core cleanses, the SoCal Cleanse is meant to be used as a continuous cleanse and not as a quick-fix detox – and this seems to be Pasquella’s mantra on all things-diet related when it comes to those New Year’s resolutions.

“Anyone who decides that they’re going to eat like mad and then all of a sudden wake up on January 1st and eat only healthy foods is setting themselves up for failure,” she explains.
“These eating habits weren’t created overnight and they can’t be changed that quickly either. I encourage my clients to baby step their way to success.”
If it’s caffeine you want to quit, for the first week, only drink half as much as usual and find a healthy substitute like green or black tea and drink that instead. The next week, cut it down to 1Ž4 and eventually, altogether.
The extensive SoCal Cleanse product line, which includes Organic Detox Protein Shakes and Organic Detox Teas as well as body products like Organic Charcoal Detox Soap and Organic Detox Body Wash, have become a staple with Hollywood celebs such as Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba and Mila Kunis.
