Apparently, the Dunphys and the Pritchetts have a bit more of the elusive X Factor than even Simon Cowell himself.
Fresh off its five Emmy wins, ABC’s Modern Family had its best ever ratings for its third season premiere Wednesday night, and even beat Cowell’s highly anticipated (and highly hyped) debut of The X-Factor, according to early Nielson data.
The one-hour Modern Family episode – which featured the family going on vacation to dude ranch -- scored a 6.0 rating, which translated into 14.3 million viewers, a record for the sitcom.
The X Factor did have a solid debut Wednesday night on Fox, attracting a 4.2. rating in the all important key demo of 18-49, which translated into 12.1 million viewers. However, it was no match for last season’s premiere of American Idol, which delivered more than twice that number -- a staggering 26 million viewers.
