Transgendered activist Chaz Bono was all smiles as he arrived at Los Angeles International Airport Thursday after hearing the news his powerful new documentary, Becoming Chaz, scored three primetime Emmy nominations.
Late Thursday, Bono, 42, posted on this Twitter account a thank you to all his well wishers: “Thanks again to everyone for your tweets about our Emmy nominations. I'm so grateful that Becoming Chaz has resonated with so many people.”
Becoming Chaz -- which premiered on The Oprah Winfrey Network in May as part of its new OWN Documentary Club -- chronicles Chaz’s transition from female to male and the impact on his family and with girlfriend Jennifer Elia.
The documentary received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Nonfiction Special, Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming and Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming.

The three nominations are also a major coup for OWN as it marks the brand new network’s very first Emmy nods.
In a statement, Bono said: "We set out to share my story honestly, hoping to help others. The staggering response we've received culminating in this huge honor of being nominated for an Emmy is simply amazing."
The 63rd annual Emmy Awards will air live from Los Angeles on Sunday, September 18 on Fox.
