Congratulations!
Just hours after New York legalized gay marriage Neil Patrick Harris confirmed his engagement to his long time partner, David Burtka, RadarOnline.com can report.
The How I Met Your Mother star took to Twitter to announce their happy news and admitted that while they did pop the question years ago, the senate's ruling now means they can finally tie the knot.
"David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago," he said. "We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date."
Harris - who is father to fraternal twins with Burtka - also tweeted words of encouragement to the State Sentate via the social networking site.
"I'd sure love to get married," he said, before the decision had been made. "Please, NY Senate, vote in favor of marriage equality today. My family would really appreciate it."
Burtka was also happy to spread the news writing to a friend, "I've already proposed, he said yes! Thank god! He proposed to me as well. I said yes! Thank god!"
