Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi took a few jabs at her old show in an interview with The Today Show on Tuesday.

The Grammy-nominated songwriter, who was on the judge’s panel in 2009 and 2010, said she thinks the show did not give her the best introduction.

"I think people were so confused ... it took viewers awhile to figure out why I was there,” DioGuardi said. “It was like I broke up the Beatles.”

She continued: "I was someone who came from behind the scenes ... to be thrust into the homes of millions of people and live television ... was so challenging."

Today host Matt Lauer asked Kara if she was brought in to put pressure on former judge Paula Abdul, who was negotiating her contract with the show at the time.

"I don't know that that was completely true ... it was really difficult," DioGuardi said.

DioGuardi -- who famously appeared in a bikini on the 2009 season finale of American Idol alongside "Bikini girl" Katrina Darrell -- did say she has “nothing but love for American Idol."

Fox declined to comment to the Today Show for the story.

DioGuardi was on the show to plug her new book, A Helluva High Note. It’s in stores now.
