No, Elijah Wood is not starring in a Michael Phelps biopic.

Actually, the Lord Of The Rings star, seen here with a giant man-dog  eating cotton candy (played by Jason Gann), was  merely  filming a scene for  his wacky new FX series Wilfred in Santa Monica , CA. on  Monday, and RadarOnline.com has all the pictures for you.

The half-hour sitcom -- adapted from an Australian series of the same title by ace producer FX by David Zuckerman (Family Guy, King of the Hill) -- stars  Wood, 30, as Ryan, a suicidal manic-depressive who finds solace in spending time with his neighbor's life-like dog, Wilfred.

"While leading him through a series of comedic and existential adventures," according to the show, "Wilfred the dog shows Ryan the man how to overcome his fears and joyfully embrace the unpredictability and insanity of the world around him."

Gann, who co-created and starred in the original version of the series in his native Australia,  won the country's Tropfest People's Choice Award for best comedy for his role Down Under.

Wilfred premieres on FX in June.
