As if having Michelle Obama on wasn't enough, David Letterman appeared on Live with Regis and Kelly Wednesday to pay homage to the retiring Regis Philbin on Wednesday, emerging in a surprise appearance for the outgoing talk show vet.
Philbin, who made the blockbuster announcement he's retiring January 18, announced the show's mystery guest as an "audience favorite" and “one of our dearest friends."
Out came the superstar late night host, with a bouquet of roses in hand, to wish Regis and co-host Kelly Ripa a happy tenth anniversary on the air.

Letterman and Regis shared a few laughs as a montage of images of the ace talk show hosts flashed on a screen in the background.
The punchline came when Letterman -- still holding the bouquet of roses in hand -- said he had to leave, and told Regis, "Oh I'm sorry the roses are for Michelle Obama," and departed to an equally thunderous round of applause.
