Less than a month shy of the one-year anniversary of Alexander McQueen’s death, First Lady Michelle Obama hit the state dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao on Wednesday night, wearing a dress from his iconic label.

Michelle wore a breathtaking off-the-shoulder red gown from the late designer’s Pre-Spring/Summer 2011 collection.  This was the first of McQueen’s collections designed by his former assistant Sarah Burton, who drew inspiration from Samurai warriors.

The gorgeously patterned black and red gown was the perfect choice for the occasion, and the First Lady radiated as she walked into the dinner with her husband.

Anna Paquin wore a dress from the same collection to the Emmy Awards is 2010.
