"I actually had to sit on his knee, I was so shocked," Simpson said of their November 11 engagement, adding Johnson, a former San Francisco 49er, had sat down with her parents prior to asking for her hand in marriage.

"He's the best man in my life -   sorry dad," she said, adding the best thing about Johnson is his thoughtfulness and ability to keep her "centered."

"This is our first New York Thanksgiving," she said, prior to showing off her magnificent ring, a $150,000 Tiffany creation.

Simpson was unable to perform Monday due to what she said was a touch of the flu, but will take the stage in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade   on Thursday in promotion of her new holiday album Happy Christmas, which is in stores now.
