While Dakota Fanning’s carving her name out in Tinseltown, she’s still enjoying the normal teenage rights of passage such as prom night, and the actress dished about her special evening on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Monday.

The 16-year-old star of The Runaways said she made an impromptu decision to attend her dance only two days before it occurred.

"I didn't think I was going to be able to go, and then two days before I decided to go and I had to find a dress and get ready at the last minute, but it was really fun," Fanning, who is also a cheerleader for her North Hollywood-based high school, told Leno. "The theme was ‘Enchanted Garden.’"

Leno, 60, then gave an anecdote about how proms, as he knows them, have changed, since he was in high school.  Leno said he had recently asked some teenagers, “Oh prom’s coming up, how do you decorate the gym?” only to get a blank response.

“Its different,” Leno said.

Fanning's next film, the long-awaited Eclipse, hits theaters June 30.
