Elizabeth Edwards said she’s moving forward after an affair destroyed her marriage to ex-presidential candidate John Edwards -- and that she’s looking at recently-divorced Sandra Bullock as a role model for the way she handled herself in the wake of her public break-up -- in an exclusive appearance on The Today Show Wednesday.

Elizabeth - who was married to John for more than 32 years - said to not think of her as "just a cuckolded wife.
“I think about Sandra Bullock -- who I don't know at all -- what an incredible year she’s had," Edwards, 60, said. "And yet, the stories you hear are not about all those great successes, but about the failure of her marriage. I thought that’s not who she is.
“I don’t know her,” Edwards said, “but I assume she wants to reclaim who she is in the same way I want to reclaim who I am.”
With her usual poise and class, Edwards did have some kind words for her ex, who admittedly fathered a love child with his mistress, Rielle Hunter.
“I think I did marry a marvelous man,” she said. “I think he changed over time. I think it was sort of hard for me to see it or admit it for a very long time. But he changed. Maybe we all change over time. And he’s no longer the person who I married.”
At one point while talking to host Matt Lauer, Edwards said, referring to Hunter, "It's hard to imagine the same person could marry me and be attracted to that....woman."
Lauer actually began the interview by asking Edwards - whose currently battling breast cancer -about her health. While she said on The Today Show she was feeling better thanks to a new chemotherapy program, a new article in People details how Edwards' cancer has spread, as she now has tumors in her legs, spine and skull.
She also told People that while she's officially separated, she won't be filing for divorce unless either she or John seeks to marry someone else.
