Barbara Walters underwent major heart surgery on Wednesday, and is expected to be released within the next few days, RadarOnline.com has learned.
Entertainment Tonight was first to report that the surgery has taken place.
On Wednesday the ever stoic newswoman/producer tweeted “Thank u for all good wishes. Very touched. I will be fine”
The legendary 80-year-old journalist said on The View Monday that she was "going to have surgery to replace one faulty heart valve."
Walters’ news came as a surprise to her co-hosts on The View, she "thought it best not to talk about it too far in advance."
Walters also said she learned about the condition during an echocardiogram, and that she's strategically timed her procedure, which has a recovery time of up to three months, around the summer season.
She hopes to be back at work in September.
