Oscar winner Mo’Nique has forgiven Oprah Winfrey but the feud with her family remains over her molester brother Gerald Imes, RadarOnline.com can reveal.
EXCLUSIVE: Mo'Nique "Not Happy" About Brother's Oprah Interview
The Precious star was fuming following Oprah’s interview with Imes on April 19, 2010, even though the chat show queen had asked for her permission beforehand. Mo’Nique felt that Oprah - who was a sexual abuse victim herself- was not sympathetic enough towards her situation and that her brother had lied about the circumstances of the abuse.
A source close to Mo’Nique told RadarOnline.com: “Mo’Nique has decided to forgive Oprah and to move on although the interview hurt her to her heart.
“But she’s still not forgiven her family and unfortunately the grudge could now go to the grave because her parents, Steven and Alice, are getting older now. She feels that her parents have never fully accepted Gerald’s role in the molestation and ever told her that it was not her fault."
To add insult to imjury, the source revealed, "Gerald is planning to write a book about their childhood and Mo’Nique feels that he is just trying to profit from the incident.
“As a mother herself she does not believe her brother has ever got the therapy or the help that he truly requires.”
Mo'Nique Makes Her Own Oscar Rules Backstage
Despite all of the turmoil surrounding her family, Mo’Nique is very happy with her own marriage to her second husband Sydney Hicks. The couple is raising three sons– four-year old twins Jonathan and David and Shalon, 17, her son from her previous marriage to Mark Jackson.
"Mo’Nique is really happy with Sydney and they have known each other for over 20 years," the source said. “She says that they have 'an understanding’ which works for them as he never gets emotionally involved with other women. Mo’Nique is really secure in both herself and her marriage and she doesn’t believe she will ever get involved in a sex scandal like Tiger Woods or Sandra Bullock did recently."
After scooping up the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for Precious Mo’Nique, 42, has been inundated with movie offers but has still not found the right role.
“At the moment she’s really concentrating on The Monique Show and wants it to reach a wider audience. The movie parts that she’s getting offered have been to stereotypical of the black over-weight woman which she does not want to do," the source added.
“Besides, she has lost a lot of weight recently and is feeling good about herself right now, so, that would not be appropriate.”
