Oscar winner Michael Douglas’s son Cameron Douglas is "doing fine" as he settles in to life at his new prison, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.
The 31-year-old heroin addict was recently transferred from New York to the minimum security prison camp which sits adjacent to the larger high security prison in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
Douglas was sentenced to five years in prison on April 20, 2010, for dealing crystal meth in New York despite the fact that his famous relatives all wrote letters supporting his character to the judge.
A prison source exclusively told RadarOnline.com: “Mr Douglas was recently transferred here and to my knowledge he is doing fine.”
The former celebrity DJ is being housed in a dormitory and will do some manual jobs like landscaping, plumbing and electrics to help pass the time.
Douglas, who was used to living a lavish lifestyle supported by his multi-millionaire father, will be paid 12 cents per hour Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 3:45pm so that he can clock-up seven and a half hours per day.
When he is not working, Douglas can take part in some leisure activities including biking, table top games, pool, bead making and crocheting, while there are no fences around the facility.
He will be served three meals per day before the lights will go out at 10:30pm while his famous relatives are allowed to visit him on Friday evenings and on Saturday and Sundays too.
Douglas, who has reportedly been taking drugs since he was 13, has the option of taking drug education classes and will receive drug treatment towards the end of his sentencing.
The 31-year-old was arrested last summer for dealing crystal meth out of the Gansevoort Hotel in the Meatpacking District.
He was arrested for a second time when his girlfriend tried to smuggle him drugs in an electric toothbrush.
During a recent Today Show appearance, Michael Douglas revealed that Cameron has been using drugs since he was 13. Prison has kept him sober for the first time in his adult life.
