Country star Mindy McCready appeared in a Florida court in an attempt to win back custody of her 4-year-old son Zander from her mother, but the State of Florida surprised her by asking her to take a drug test, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.
A lab technician wearing surgical gloves was ready to administer the test, but the 34-year-old singer was given a reprieve until a later date.
McCready was dressed elegantly in a black pantsuit with her hair in a pony tail when she asked the court to grant her unsupervised visitation of her son.

It wasn’t granted, in large part, due to the state’s objection to documents that allegedly prove she has completed drug and alcohol recovery programs.
McCready’s attorney James Moon even offered to get Dr. Drew Pinsky, Host of Celebrity Rehab, on the phone to testify on her behalf.

Instead the judge gave McCready 45 days to organize her paperwork and appear in court again. In the meantime, she is allowed supervised visitation with Zander, only when her mother Gayle McCready Inge is present.
Zander, who was not at the hearing, has been living with his grandmother for the past three years. Although Mindy’s publicist first told RadarOnline.com that Inge is fighting to retain custody, Inge told us she is not but that the state that is preventing Mindy from regaining permanent custody.
