David Letterman showed he's still got some hostility for late night rival Jay Leno on The Late Show Wednesday, as he poked some fun at the Tonight Show host, who happened to be celebrating his 60th birthday.
"Happy birthday to Jay Leno ... Jay Leno is 60-years-old today, and I heard very unhappy," Letterman joked. "Apparently he is, you know why? He wants Conan's birthday."
"So Jay had a birthday party, all his friends got together and they had a wonderful time ... they played pin the chin on the donkey," he said.
After waging a silent battle for the better part of 17 years, the late night fiasco of 2010 -- when NBC paid Conan O’Brien $44 million to leave The Tonight Show so Leno could reclaim it -- brought out the fangs in both Leno and Letterman, who have taken comedic shots at each other throughout the year.
"Letterman has been hammering me every night," Leno said during a January monologue on his now-defunct variety show. "Hey Kev, you know the best way to get Letterman to ignore you? Marry him. He will not bother you. He won't look you in the eye."
