Tom Cruise has signed on to star in the fourth installment of the Mission: Impossible movie franchise, reprising his role as Ethan Hunt in the action flick.

Cruise’s last film with Paramount studios was Mission: Impossible III after which the studio head Sumner Redstone fired him and publicly criticized his actions – his highly publicized and much ridiculed jumping on the couch professing his love of Katie Holmes on Oprah and his Scientology rants.

Since then Cruise has had daughter Suri and married her mother Katie in a lavish wedding in Italy.

The Mission: Impossible franchise has earned $1.4 billion world wide, and the fourth movie is scheduled to film this summer and to be released Memorial Day weekend 2011.
