EXCLUSIVE: Brittany Murphy's Husband Cancels Event "For Medical Reasons"

On Tuesday, Simon Monjack abruptly cancelled the launch party for the Brittany Murphy Foundation hours after news of the memorial event hit the press. RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned why Monjack pulled the plug.
"He told us he was canceling for medical reasons," an official at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, where they event was scheduled to occur on February 4, told RadarOnline.com.
RadarOnline.com investigated the matter further and learned the event was hardly even planned though a formal invite was sent out on behalf of Murphy's mother Sharon and Monjack.

The official, who wished to remain anonymous, told RadarOnline.com that Monjack approached them early last week to hold the venue. However, he did not offer any other details beyond that.
"He didn't tell us anything," the official said. "We had no idea that he was charging people $1,000 to go. We thought it was just going to be a memorial."
The event, which mandated guests arrive in cocktail attire, had a suggested donation of $1,000 per individual and $10,000 per corporation to attend. When asked how many people had bought tickets, the official said "it never even got that far."

The venue is upset at being thrust into the media despite their limited involvement and knowledge of the event.

"We're p---ed because we don't want our venue to look bad. I don't know Simon and I don't think I want to know him. He seems like a pretty shady guy." A rep for Monjack had no comment.
