Jude Law’s new daughter Sophia was born two weeks early weighing in at 5lbs and 12 oz, RadarOnline.com can reveal.
Former Hooters waitress 24-year-old Samantha Burke gave birth to the couple’s baby in Florida on Tuesday evening while the British actor was on stage in Hamlet 1500 miles away in New York.
Law signed autographs for fans outside the Broadhurst Theatre on Broadway Wednesday night, but remained tight-lipped about his newborn daughter.
The baby had been due on October 6 but aspiring actress Burke – who became pregnant by the actor following a brief fling – was taken to the hospital ahead of time.
Burke’s publicist Eileen Koch said: “Samantha Burke is overwhelmed with joy at the arrival of her beautiful and healthy baby girl, Sophia - the baby and the mom are doing wonderful.”
Law – who already has three kids Rafferty, 12, Rudy, 6, and Iris, 8, with first wife Sadie Frost – only acknowledged two months ago that Burke was having their child.
The former model has since returned to her hometown of Pensacola in Florida to live with her parents as she prepares to raise her daughter.
A spokesman for Law acknowledged the pregnancy in July stating that the actor intended to play a fully supportive role in the child’s life although he was no longer involved with Burke.
It’s understood that the millionaire star’s lawyers have thrashed-out child-support payments for Sophia who will be set financially for the life.
In addition, she also started a blog last month for “anyone interested in the story of this ordinary woman having a celebrity’s child.”
In the blog, she wrote about how she felt when she discovered that she was going to have Law’s baby and said: “I didn’t jump for joy because I hit the
jackpot – I cried my eyes out and started adjusting my future plans – not once did I think about money.”
Burke added: “I can’t tell you how far from a gold-digger I am – I wish there was a reporter finding out how I’ve never dated a rich man in my life …
“I never in my life would have planned a pregnancy for money!”
