The Los Angeles Police Department has now closed its investigation involving actor/director Mel Gibson and a photographer who accused the Braveheart star of attacking him and allegedly ripping his t-shirt at the opening of a Hollywood nightclub July 29, a leading law enforcement official with the LAPD exclusively tells RadarOnline.com.

The shutterbug filed a battery report with the LAPD after the alleged incident.  The police source says, throughout the investigation, Gibson  “refused to cooperate” with authorities. “He won’t let us interview him,” according to the source.

Despite Gibson’s lack of cooperation, the police official tells RadarOnline.com exclusively:  “I went to the nightclub that night and talked to many witnesses, who refuted all statements made by the alleged victim. The victims never saw an altercation by the two and never saw Mel allegedly rip the man’s t-shirt.”

When asked how the photographer got his shirt ripped, the source said, “Who knows.”   “From my point of view and extensive investigation it would be physically impossible for both men to touch each other.”

The LAPD has now turned the case over to the L.A. City District Attorney’s office “where it will be rejected for lack of evidence,” said the LAPD official.
