CNN, which has utilized burgeoning micro-blogging network Twitter as a medium to break news, has been in a neck-and-neck competition with actor/ Twitter-addict Ashton Kutcher to see whose channel would win the race to one million subscribers first.

CNN finished second.

A jubilant Kutcher celebrated his e-victory late Thursday night with the following posts: "Victory is ours!!!!!!!! ... YOU GUYS are AMAZING ... My millionth follower was... @Sinnersatre thanks for you follow!"

CNN, via their Twitter, responded humbly in defeat: "Congrats @aplusk Ashton Kutcher is the first twitter account to reach 1MM followers."

The good-natured competition between the media powerhouses came with stakes: the actor previously said he'd donate 10,000 mosquito nets to charity Malaria No More if he won, an offer CNN agreed to match; shortly after the win, Kutcher proudly made out a check in the amount of $100,000 to the charity.   Kutcher streamed live as he hit the 1MM follower (watch below).

Kutcher will appear on Oprah Friday to celebrate the win again -- and teach Oprah a thing or two about Twitter.
