Ben Higgins' proposal on The Bachelor was anything but a fairytale, as the finale was complete with tears, tantrums and tense moments!

Higgins, 27, who broke the rules by confessing his love for both Lauren Bushnell and JoJo Fletcher in a Bachelor first, was unsure of who to pop the question to only moments before the engagement.

"He was so nervous and anxious," a source told Life & Style of the software salesman. "Ben kept on rehearsing his proposal with producers."

But trouble in paradise still hit even after Higgins chose between Bushnell and Fletcher.

"He proposed in extreme heat," the insider revealed. "Nov. 18 was the hottest day of the whole week – about 90 degrees. Just stepping outside would make you sweat. It was really uncomfortable for everyone."

Although the mood changed for the better when Higgins popped the question with a 4-carat Neil Lane engagement ring, the runner-up immediately ran back to the hotel.

"She stayed in her room all night with one of the producers," the source said. "While the rest of the crew had a loud wrap party right outside."
