Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning, RadarOnline.com has learned.
Lochte, 32, was partying with other members of Team USA when he was attacked, according to reports.
His mother, Ileana Lochte, confirmed the news and reported that he was not harmed. She explained that her son was on the way to meet Brazilian swimmer Thiago Pereira with his friends and the cab had to stop for gas. At that point, they were held up at gun point and Lochte’s wallet was stolen.
She said her son told her via text message.
“I think they’re all shaken up,” she told USA Today.
“No, they were just, they just took their wallets and basically that was it,” she said of the incident.
Earlier in the night, Lochte had posted several Snapchats of him celebrating his gold medal win in a club.
The swimmer has not directly on the incident yet, but the Associated Press reports he denied his mother’s claims.
Lochte’s personal coach also denied the gunpoint robbery occurred.
Story developing.
