Rick Springfield just revealed he contemplated killing himself – just last year. As RadarOnline.com has learned, the iconic singer came clean about his ongoing battle with depression in a tell-all interview with SiriusXM’s Feedback.

“Last year I was close to it, really close to it,” Springfield, 68, told host Lori Majewski about almost committing suicide due to his mental illness.

“‘Suicide Manifesto’ is stuff I think about. I’ve been close to it,” he said about his new song, The Snake King.

Speaking of the moment he found out about the shocking suicides of Robin Williams, Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell, the star said: “I didn’t go, ‘Oh that’s terrible.’ I went, ‘I get it.’ I get being that lost and dark.”

“You’re in so much pain that you just want it to end. I have been there and I know what it’s like and I understand. It’s just part of your makeup,” added Springfield in this Thursday’s interview.

As RadarOnline.com readers know, the “Jessie’s Girl” singer has been candid about his troubles with depression in the past.

In his memoir, Late, Late at Night, he even spoke of his first suicide attempt at the age of 17. “I tried,” he said of his attempt at hanging himself, but the noose broke. Springfield admitted he is still unsure how he even survived that.

In their recent talk, Rick Springfield told Lori Majewski that when he had kids he thought to himself “’Okay that takes suicide off the table, that’s not an option anymore, I don’t care how bad I feel.’ But now my kids are grown. It’s really weird…”

He then admitted that while his killing himself would “devastate” his children, suicide is something that “rides on his shoulder every day.”
