Melanie Griffith may have left her ex-husband years ago, but she's still involved in his life! RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal the actress has been helping her former spouse, Steven Bauer, overcome his drug addiction.

"Steven has type 2 diabetes and pancreas problems," a source told RadarOnline.com. "He was still doing a lot of drugs, mostly cocaine, which he'd been doing since at least the early '80s!"

Griffith, 59, who was married to Bauer, 59, from 1982 to 1987, feared he wouldn't make it if she didn't intervene.

"Melanie recognized that if Steven didn't get help fast, he was going to die," the insider revealed.

Bauer's addiction has also been affecting his career, as producers of his Showtime series Ray Donovan warned him "to straighten up or he'd be off the show."

Bauer voluntarily checked into a Malibu treatment center this week.
