Matt Lauer Wanted To 'Wrestle' Tom Cruise After Explosive 2005 Interview
On a fateful day in 2005, a younger Tom Cruise sat down with TODAY Show host Matt Lauer to discuss his then new movie, War Of The Worlds, as well as his new relationship with Katie Holmes — but the interview didn't go well.
Instead, the explosive sit-down concluded in a heated debate grounded in Cruise's Scientology belief system.
As you may remember, during Lauer's interview with Cruise, he asked the actor about his previous criticism of Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants after suffering postpartum depression. Based on Scientologist theology, Cruise did not believe that drug use would cure her condition.
"Matt, there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance," the Mission Impossible blasted Lauer at the time.
"So postpartum depression to you is psychological gobbledygoop? I'm just asking what you would call it," Lauer retorted.
"Matt, you're glib. You don't even know what Ritalin is," Cruise seethed, his famous last words.

On Wednesday, during a much more relaxed interview on Watch What Happens Live, Lauer discussed the infamous talk with Cruise, calling it something he would "do over" if he could.
Lauer also told show host Andy Cohen that his genuine reaction to the uncomfortable chat with Cruise was: "Can I take him in a wrestling match? Could I tackle him on the set?"
