Surprise Split! Kaley Cuoco Divorcing Ryan Sweeting -- Why It's Over After Just 21 Months

Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting are divorcing after just 21 months of marriage, The Big Bang Theory actress announced Friday.

"Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting have mutually decided to end their marriage," Cuoco's rep told PEOPLE. "They ask for privacy at this time. No further statement will be issued regarding this matter."

The couple's relationship raised eyebrows from the start: They wed in a surprise ceremony on New Year's Eve 2013, after only three months of dating. Sweeting, 28, a former Bahamas-born college tennis star, was not a public figure.

This spring, they faced increasingly intense rumors of a split this spring, with Star magazine reporting they were headed for divorce.

Cuoco, 29, insisted on Instagram that they were fine, writing, "I have never been more proud of anyone on this planet – this guy is fighting back from a whirlwind of injuries and not to mention constant 'conversation' regarding our marriage and basically any daily decision we decide to make."

But in June, OK! magazine reported a source said Cuoco was "secretly worried she doesn't know him that well."
