Cover-Up Claims EXPOSED! Jim Carrey Hid His Role In GF's Death, Lawsuit Alleges
Sept. 20 2016, Updated 12:32 a.m. ET
Jim Carrey knowingly covered up his involvement in girlfriend Cathriona White's suicide, the wrongful death lawsuit filed against him by her ex-husband alleges.
In court papers obtained by RadarOnline.com, White's estranged husband, Mark Burton, lays out a series of explosive allegations about how he says Carrey was "responsible" for the makeup artist's death — and how he covered it up.
According to Burton, Carrey used "his immense wealth and celebrity status to illegally obtain and distribute highly addictive, and in this case deadly, controlled substances," using the name "Arthur King."
The lawsuit states that pill bottles bearing that name were found next to White's body after her September 24, 2015 suicide.
According to Burton, Carrey could have prevented White's death. Carrey "had the ability to monitor surveillance cameras on a home White often stayed at," the lawsuit claims. And on September 24, his "assistant remotely checked the surveillance cameras and determined that White last entered the residence at midday on September 24, 2015, but had not left for well over a day."
"After learning of this fact, however, neither Carrey nor his assistant alerted authorities," the document states, despite the fact, Burton claims, that Carrey "wrongfully and illegally supplied … the drugs to White on or about September 21, 2015, just before her death overdosed on the drugs on or about September 24, 2015 and died.."
Once she was found dead, Burton claims, Carrey's alleged cover-up swung into effect.
The lawsuit states, "In an effort to cover-up his conduct and complicity in her death, Carrey sent a bogus text message on September 27, 2015, to White (who was already deceased) pretending as though he had misplaced the drugs and insinuating White may have taken them from Carrey without his knowledge, when in reality Carrey knew full well that he had voluntarily and illegally provided the fraudulently obtained and prescribed drugs to White days prior."
"If Carrey legitimately believed White had taken the drugs from him and she had subsequently gone missing for days with no contact, then why would Carrey not immediately request law enforcement to check on her well-being after she did not return his text?" the lawsuit asks.
Burton is demanding damages and a jury trial.
"What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man's lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world. I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control. I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace" Carrey told Radar, through his rep.
