On The Move! Chip Gaines' Past Car Theft EXPOSED
Chip Gaines' college years were filled with fake IDs and arrest warrants, RadarOnline.com has learned!
Gaines, now 41, was arrested for stealing his car from a tow-truck service in 1998, just four years after he was caught with a fake license in Waco, TX.
The tow-truck service's manager called the local police after "someone came on to the lot and removed the pickup without paying the towing fee" of $100, according to the incident report obtained by RadarOnline.com.
"Mr. Good also said earlier Woody had received a call at his residence from a unknown female and asked about that particular vehicle and what the fee was to get it back," the report continued, with the officer noting that he traced the phone number to Gaines' dad, Bob.
"I explained the situation to him and informed him that the fees for the towing needed to be resolved, otherwise for THEFT OF SERVICE would be filed," the officer reported.
A new officer was assigned to the case, and conducted an investigation as to why the car was towed from a grocery store near Baylor Stadium. He concluded that Gaines simply parked in a customer's only zone.
The cop noted that the employee "pointed to the WHITE GMC PICKUP, and he noticed a beer bottle and a beer can on the tailgate of the vehicle."
He followed up with Gaines' dad, who "told him that his son was at a funeral, and that when he returned, he would have his son contact me." But Gaines never called, and the cell phone number his dad gave police was disconnected.
The officer later spoke to his dad again, who "told him that his son was upset because he felt that the $100 tow fee was excessive and would pay in his own time." He also admitted to the cops that he was in Waco on the day the car was stolen, and drove his son to the towing lot.
The cops went to serve him with an arrest warrant, but couldn't find where Gaines was living at the time.
The case was suspended for a few weeks, until he was pulled over by another officer for speeding and they were able to arrest him.
He was charged with theft of service, more than $20 but less than $500.
The father-of-four was found guilty and sentenced to six months probation. He also had to pay $300 as a probation payment, and pay $40/month to the Community Supervision and Corrections Department for six months. He was also given five months to complete 60 hours of community service.
But, Gaines failed to report to his probation officer and pay off his fees. A warrant was placed for his arrest again, and his probation was extended by eight months.
