Consciously imprisoned? Gwyneth Paltrow's uncle has been thrown behind bars for tax evasion and is serving a six month sentence in a federal prison, RadarOnline.com has confirmed.

Robert Paltrow, the brother of her late father Bruce Paltrow, was convicted of filing false income tax returns, according to United States Attorney David J. Hickton.

Robert, a 73-year-old race car driver, begged for a three-month sentence, Gossip Extra first reported, but United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed the six months per count of tax evasion to be served concurrently.

He paid "$5.5 million to the IRS to straighten out seven years of ‘erroneous' tax returns," the website claimed and he sold his Palm Beach, Florida home for $7.3 million to help pay his back taxes.

Robert was also given "one year supervised release and a fine of $50,000 on his conviction of filing false income tax returns," the US Attorney said.

He was accused of lying on his income tax returns in 2007 and 2008, "whereby he failed to report $4,787,222 in taxable income, resulting in an underpayment of $798,969 in income tax owed to the United States."

Story developing.
