UPDATE: Radar has confirmed that Lindsay did check into Betty Ford shortly before the midnight deadline.
In a surprising development, Lindsay Lohan was cleared to enter the Betty Ford Center for treatment late Thursday, following her surprising reunion with legal powerhouse Shawn Holley, LiLo’s fired attorney who brokered the deal. Still, the situation remained unclear early Friday if Lohan actually arrived by the midnight deadline to avoid having a warrant issued for her arrest.
“Lindsay cut a last minute deal with the D.A. to go to Betty Ford. Shawn Holley helped to broker the agreement with [Los Angeles] City Attorney [Terry White] late Thursday night. It’s unclear if she has checked in,” a source close to situation exclusively tells RadarOnline.com.
Insiders told RadarOnline.com the Mean Girls star, in a panic, contacted her former attorney — the same woman she fired in January — and begged her to save her from entering the Morningside Recovery facility in Newport Beach, Calif. by the midnight deadline, as she faced an arrest warrant.
It was a last-minute plea from the 26-year-old actress, who earlier defied a judge’s orders by not checking into the rehab facility.
The Liz & Dick star had told confidantes she wanted to fire her New York-based attorney Mark Heller, the man who orchestrated the 90-day court ordered stint in rehab as punishment for lying to cops about her involvement in a car crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica last June. (The incident also led to another probation violation in connection with her 2011 misdemeanor theft conviction after she stole a necklace.)
“Lindsay cannot stand her current lawyer and thinks he doesn’t know what he is doing,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “So late Thursday, from hiding, she began calling and emailing Shawn incessantly. Shawn has always had a soft spot for Lindsay, even after everything she has pulled. She hates to see her suffering,” the insider told us.
Our source added LiLo owes Shawn more than $300,000 in legal fees for her work over the years.
In a day of high drama, Lohan bolted from Morningside on Thursday morning, telling the facility’s staff that she didn’t need rehab as Heller, at the same time, told Superior Court Judge James R. Dabney that Lohan was settling in at the venue.
“My client is ensconced in the bosom of that facility right now,” Heller told the judge. “She’s in rehab right now. Nothing bad is going to happen.”
A rep for Lohan later contacted the facility in an attempt to negotiate the terms of her stay, another source close to the situation revealed.
“Lindsay had her ‘publicist’ call all day on Thursday making outrageous demands … like that she needed her cell phone with her at all times,” the insider said. “It’s like she thinks Morningside is a hotel. The staff at the facility doesn’t need nor want this drama.
“Lindsay’s actions on Thursday were very disruptive.”
