They are the type of scenes that might make Harry Potter and his friend Hermione blush.
But Daniel Radcliffe seems to be lapping up the attention that the sexually explicit scenes in his upcoming movie seem to be generating.
The former child star is at the Sundance Film Festival promoting the upcoming independent movie Kill Your Darlings.
Set in 1944 it is based on the true story and a murder involving beat poets Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs.
The formerly cherubic Potter star plays Ginsberg who gets initiated into booze, drugs and gay sex. In one scene a man performs oral sex on Radcliffe’s character while in a library.
“Films like this don’t get made unless everyone involved loves them,” the 23-year-old told an audience at Sundance when asked if he chose the role because it fits the “weird stuff” he likes.
Asked specifically about the library sex scene, Radcliffe said coyly, “It was something new.
“But you know what? We shot the whole scene in maybe an hour and a half so it was incredibly fast-paced.
“I didn’t really have time to stop to think and worry about it.”
Speaking about the film’s director John Krokidas, he added: “John was very helpful in furnishing me with a lot of graphic detail of what I would be experiencing at the various stages.”
It’s not the first time Radcliffe has stepped into more daring roles. At 17 he appeared nude on stage in the play Equus.
