Whitey Bulger Feared He Would Be Murdered In Prison Before Death

In the months before he was found dead of what cops believe could be murder, Whitey Bulger feared he would be assaulted or killed behind bars, a source told RadarOnline.com exclusively.
“He was always concerned about someone in prison beating him up or killing him,” the friend told RadarOnline.com, adding that there had been “attempts” on the notorious mobster’s life in the years before his sudden death.
The friend pointed out that Bulger, who was found dead in his West Virginia federal prison this morning just hours after his transfer at 89, was a “well-known” inmate, and a potential target for fellow prisoners looking to make a name for themselves.
According to prison letters obtained by RadarOnline.com earlier this month, the mafia boss even accused prison guards of “torture” in the form of “sleep deprivation.”
Bulger’s longtime girlfriend, Catherine Greig — who is serving time for her role in aiding the mafia boss’ 16 years on the run — will be “shocked” and saddened by the death when told in prison, the friend insisted.
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Bulger was discovered dead in maximum security Hazelton Penitentiary in Bruceton Mills at 8:20 am on October 30.
Cops believe he was murdered by a fellow inmate with “mafia ties,” the Boston Globe reported this afternoon.
Bulger was serving a life sentence for his participation in the murder of 11 people. After years on the lam, he was caught in 2011, and convicted two years later.
