In the wake of the #metoo movement, Sarah Hyland has revealed her own battle with sexual assault, and its traumatic aftermath.
In a personal tweet, the Modern Family star offered an explanation as to why she did not report her sexual assault.
“He was a friend. It was New Year’s Eve my senior year of high school. Everyone was drunk,” she wrote. “He broke in to the bathroom I was in. I hoped it was a dream but my ripped tights in the morning proved otherwise.
“I thought no one would believe me. I didn’t want to be called dramatic. After all I didn’t say no. Shock can do that to a person.”
Hyland, 27, is just the latest Hollywood celebrity to come forward with their own story of sexual assault, in support of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who was grilled by Senators over accusations she was sexually assaulted by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh at a high school party in suburban Maryland in the early ‘80s.
Earlier Thursday, Cougar Town star Busy Philipps revealed she was raped at age 14, sharing her thoughts on Instagram, along with a yearbook photo of herself at that age.
“This is me at 14. The age I was raped. It’s taken me 25 years to say those words,” she wrote on Instagram. “I wrote about it in my book I finally told my parents and sister about it 4 months ago.”
Philipps, 39, joined a growing list of voices supporting Ford, and her testimony.
“Today is the day we are silent no more. All of us.” She continued. “I’m scared to post this. I can’t imagine what Dr. Ford is feeling right now.”
Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.
