Stop It! Prince Charles Wanted To Call Off Wedding To Princess Diana

Prince Charles ‘desperately’ wanted to pull out of his wedding to Princess Diana, an explosive new biography has claimed.

Charles spoke of his frustration to his friends years later as he knew that their marriage was doomed to fail.

However, he was too scared about calling off the wedding, saying it ‘would have been cataclysmic’.

The couple tied the knot in 1981 before millions around the world, but had only met 12 times before they got engaged.

The new book penned by writer Robert Jobson is being released to mark Prince Charles 70th birthday.

It includes several fascinating details, headlined by Charles’ thoughts on his marriage.

Jobson wrote: “It hadn’t taken him long – just a few meetings with Diana – to realize that they were totally incompatible.

“Years later, he told friends: ‘I desperately wanted to get out of the wedding in 1981, when during the engagement I discovered just how awful the prospects were, having had no chance whatsoever to get to know Diana beforehand.’

Princess Diana had just turned 20 when the couple got married – they went on to endure a troubled relationship.

The couple got divorced on, 28 August 1996, following well-publicized extramarital affairs by both parties.

Diana died in a car crash in Paris, aged only 36, in 1997
