Nikki Bella & John Cena Split Used As Storyline On ‘WWE’ After Publicity Stunt Claims
Feb. 25 2019, Updated 11:36 a.m. ET
Nikki Bella and John Cena were accused of calling off their wedding to help boost ratings for Total Divas – and their split is now being used for a storyline on WWE! After Nikki and her sister Brie Bella turned on Ronda Rousey last week, she’s fighting back by going after her enemy’s failed relationship with Cena!
“Last week, the Bella twins betrayed me in front of the whole world,” Rousey said of her former allies in this week’s scripted episode.
“You want an explanation? We don’t owe you one,” Nikki said, as her sister Brie added, “This is show business, not show friends. You were the one to disrespect us. You’re the one who disregarded everything Nikki and I have done for this business. What do you expect? For us to sit on the sidelines and watch you?”
Rousey then fired back, “I tried my best to be respectful. I knew the WWE is your territory first. I really tried to not be judgmental. Even though everything the Diva era stood for made me sick to my stomach. I tried my best to give you the benefit of the doubt. You guys are the embodiment of a stereotype!”
She then accused Nikki and Brie, who is married to wrestling superstar Daniel Bryan, “You leeched off the names of your men!”
Nikki replied, “We have broken more barriers than you ever had. We have knocked down more doors. You don’t even compare to us at all!”
Rousey then took a jab at Nikki’s split from Cena!
“Knock down doors?” she asked. “My entire career I’ve been knocking down doors. The only door you ever knocked down was the door to John Cena’s bedroom. He eventually threw you out of that exact same door!”
This is the first time the WWE has acknowledged the split between the two stars.
The storyline comes after RadarOnline.com exclusively reported the broken engagement was a publicity stunt to boost ratings for her E! reality show Total Divas.
“John and Nikki live in the overly scripted and dramatic world of World Wrestling Entertainment, so they’re both well practiced in the rehearsed world of reality TV,” a source told RadarOnline.com in May.
The split came at the perfect time, as Nikki’s show Total Divas returned for an eight season.
“The timing couldn’t have been better for the show,” the insider said. “All of this has played out like a very Kardashian-like drama. That’s reality TV at its finest.”
