Former country great Mindy McCready's troubled life came to a shocking end at 37 on Sunday, as police said she first shot her dog and then shot herself in the head of the porch of her Heber Springs, Ark. Home, RadarOnline.com is reporting.
Less than two weeks ago, RadarOnline.com reported that McCready’s children were removed from her by a judge, and she was ordered into a treatment facility for mental health and alcohol abuse issues. At the time, a source told E!: “Mindy needs to get help and we all care and love her and we want her to get the right help so she can move on. She is in a bad state right now, depressed and unhappy. It is not good.”
McCready’s boyfriend David Wilson died in January at 34 from a gunshot wound -- on the exact same porch McCready took her own life -- and his death is still under investigation.
Mindy's father, Tim McCready said in court documents that the troubled singer fell apart following Wilson's death.
"Since boyfriend shot himself she has been in bed for 3 wks," her father said. "Sleeps all day. Drinks all night and is taking Rx drugs. Not bathing or even helping take care of her 2 children."
McCready’s ex-boyfriend Billy McKnight told the TODAY Show Monday he wasn't shocked at the grim news because Mindy -- who tried to kill herself at least three times in the past eight years -- had "been battling demons for so long.
“Of course, I was around her when she attempted suicide twice, so I knew it was in her. I feel for her mother and her family and especially my son, but I can’t say that it shocked me.’’
McKnight said he didn't know McCready left a treatment facility for mental health and alcohol abuse issues to an outpatient treatment center.
"Perhaps staying there and grieving… could have calmed her down," he said. "But the demons that she hasn't beaten were there, and until she was going to face them something was going to happen and everyone who knows her personally knew that."
