Why 'Chicago?' The REAL Story Behind Kim & Kanye's Bizarre New Baby Name

Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian nearly broke the internet today when she revealed she named her newborn baby daughter Chicago West!

However, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned it wasn’t the 37-year-old mother of three’s decision at all – it was hubby Kanye's!

“It was all Kanye,” a Kardashian family insider told RadarOnline.com. “He really wanted a name that paid homage to his upbringing, and thought that his late mother Donda would have loved the name!”

As fans know, Kardashian revealed the name Chicago West on her app four days after the child was born via surrogate at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in L.A.

Unlike Kanye, Kim wasn't as thrilled with the choice of moniker.

“Kim was adamantly against the name at first. But when she realized that she could call her ‘Chi’ she ultimately gave in,” the source said, adding, “She does like the name ‘Chi,’ and she is telling everyone that she will never call her daughter ‘Chicago.’”

So far, Kim's clan hasn't come around.

"Her family was super disappointed," the source said.

As RadarOnline.com reported earlier this week, Kim and Kanye previously discussed the name Donda after his mom, who passed away in 2007. According to a source, Kim ultimately vetoed the suggestion.
