Arizona GOP Senator John McCain is opening up about his biggest regret as he lies on his deathbed.

McCain, who is suffering from stage 4 brain cancer, told the New York Times on Saturday that if he could do it all over again, he would've chosen Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut to be his running mate in the 2008 presidential race. McCain eventually lost the election to Barack Obama.

In response to McCain's confession, Lieberman admitted he had no idea the politician felt that way.

"It touched me greatly," Lieberman said.

Palin made history when she became the first Republican woman to be selected as a vice presidential candidate. Though the then-governor of Alaska was first thought of as a strong contender, she was later seen as a controversial figure.

McCain, 81, has been battling an aggressive form of brain cancer for nearly a year. Last month, in Arizona, he underwent emergency surgery for an intestinal infection.

People close to the ailing senator recently revealed that he does not wish to have President Donald Trump at his funeral and would like Vice President Mike Pence to attend instead. http
